Robert (68) and Cindy Guerrero (67) passed away leaving behind a legacy of enduring love, devotion, and family. Both born in Tulare, California, Robert to parents; Robert and Virginia Guerrero, Cindy to parents; Celestino and Velia Carrasco. Robert grew up in Tulare while Cindy was raised in nearby Visalia. Their paths crossed during their high school years, where they met and quickly became inseparable, beginning a love story that would span nearly five decades.

Married for 48 beautiful years, Robert and Cindy built a life together rooted in commitment, laughter, faith, and unwavering partnership.

Their love story blossomed into a marriage that served as a foundation not only for their family but also as an example to all who knew them. Through life’s joys and challenges, they stood side by side, devoted to one another and to the family they cherished above all else.

Robert had a lifelong love of all sports; football, baseball and softball, but it was golf that truly captured his heart in recent years. He found great joy on the course, where his passion for the game and competitive spirit continued to shine. Cindy, in her own way, brought just as much joy to those around her through her love of food. She was happiest in the kitchen; cooking, baking, and creating meals that brought family and friends together, always making sure no one left the table hungry.

Cindy’s greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her children. She poured her heart into making their lives magical, often creating decorations and presents from scratch and turning even the smallest occasions into something exciting and special. Holidays, birthdays, and milestones were never ordinary in Cindy’s home; they were thoughtfully crafted celebrations filled with love, creativity, and memories that will last a lifetime.

They are lovingly remembered by their two daughters, Adrienne and Kristen, who were the pride and joy of their lives. Robert and Cindy were also devoted grandparents to Scarlett, Dylan, and Frankie, who brought them immeasurable happiness. Their grandchildren will forever carry forward the warmth, wisdom, and love their grandparents so generously shared.

Robert and Cindy’s home was one filled with welcome, kindness, and togetherness. Their legacy lives on in the strong family bonds they nurtured, the values they instilled, and the countless memories created around dinner tables, family gatherings, and everyday moments made special simply by being together.

Though they will be deeply missed, the love they shared with each other and their family will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know them.

A group of California high schoolers has reportedly been disciplined after they lined up on the bleachers last week wearing shirts that spelled out a homophobic slur — a shocking act that has rocked the district.

The 10 troublemakers from Redwood High School, located southeast of Fresno, including several student government leaders, smiled with their arms wrapped around one another and posed for a photo with white T-shirts that spelled out “F—-t,” according to an image obtained by YourCentralValley.com.

The students had letters on their tees for a senior class photo inside the gym and had initially posed for a picture that spelled out, “Always Legit, Class of 2026,” Visalia Unified School District spokesperson Cristina Gutierrez told the San Francisco Chronicle.

But they pulled off the disturbing stunt afterward, using the “6” for the “g” in the slur.

School officials caught wind of the slur after the students’ photo started circulating on social media.

“We have recently been made aware of an image circulating in which Redwood students coordinated to spell out a hateful, homophobic slur,” Visalia Unified Superintendent Kirk Shrum said in a statement to the outlets.

“This is unacceptable behavior and this matter is being thoroughly investigated and appropriate action will be taken,” the superintendent vowed.

Gutierrez told the Chronicle that the incident has shaken the school community, especially since some of those involved were student government leaders.

By Friday, the school district announced it took “appropriate disciplinary action” against the students who spelled out the slur, according to YourCentralValley.com.

The district didn’t elaborate on the exact punishment, but the group of 10 could be suspended or expelled, according to school board policies.

There should be no space for homophobia in any setting, yet incidents like this prove it remains an issue even among young people. At Redwood High School in California’s Visalia Unified School District, a group of senior students drew attention for all the wrong reasons following a class photo session.

Inside the school gym, seniors initially posed in coordinated T-shirts spelling out “Class of 2026 Always Legit.” After the official photo was taken, however, several students repositioned themselves to rearrange the message into a homophobic slur. The altered image, in which the students appeared to be smiling, quickly began circulating.

What began as a routine senior photo became a reminder that prejudice can surface anywhere, and that accountability, especially in educational spaces, still matters.

ABC30 later aired a blurred version of the image featuring the California high school students. However, the unedited photo quickly surfaced in the comment section beneath the video, clearly showing the students’ faces.

In response, the Visalia Unified School District confirmed it has launched an investigation. The district described the message spelled out by the students as a “hateful, homophobic slur,” making its stance on the incident clear.

What makes the situation more troubling is that the act took place in a packed gym during the photo session. Any LGBTQ+ students present were forced to witness the display firsthand. According to one student from the school, those involved are well-known on campus and considered leaders. That reputation, however, did not prevent them from participating in the incident.

The viral image had already started affecting the LGBTQ+ community in Visalia, California. ABC30 shared that The Source LGBT+ Center said that they have been overwhelmed with calls ever since the picture was posted. This prompted them to hold a youth and community forum. “Hate speech does have a direct impact on not only student performance, but students’ feelings of isolation increase and anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations. We’re seeing kids start to model behaviors that they’re seeing in adults engaging, now we’re seeing that trickle down into our schools.” Says Ericka Hawkyard, The Source Visalia Director of Programs, according to the news outlet. It’s not clear yet what the punishment would be but it could include suspension.

People Reacting to the California High School Students’ Homophobia

The majority of people were rightfully upset by how homophobic the California high school students were being. This is why many wanted them to face consequences. “Release their names. So any future colleges and employers know,” one person wrote. An LGBTQ+ advocate on Instagram also shared the picture and wrote, “Expel these students at Redwood High School in Visalia, CA.” Someone in the comments claimed that the students were already facing consequences. “My friend knows some of them from when she went to the high school and said that they all got banned from walking at graduation amongst other consequences,” they said. Another person wrote, “hate speech have consequences…notice how this isn’t common because not everyone is full of hate and show it.”

Not everyone condemned the California students’ actions. A number of commenters came to their defense, prompting a sharp response from others online. One person wrote, “It’s vile and evil conduct. Colleges should rescind their attendance and prospective employers should not employ them.”

Supporters of the students pushed back. “People have become so soft,” one commenter argued, which was a remark that quickly drew backlash of its own.

Another response took a broader view of the situation: “It’s frustrating to see actions that overshadow the real reasons Pride Month and LGBTQ+ advocacy are so important. Sadly, there are still many who need to understand why this work continues to be necessary. We need to keep pushing for acceptance and equality for everyone. Let’s focus on the progress we can make together. It’s about building a more inclusive future for all.”

Regardless of where people stood in the comment section, the original act sparked a wider conversation, one that likely could have been avoided altogether had the students chosen differently.

Superintendent Kirk Shrum said, the district was made aware of an image portraying Redwood students spelling out a hateful, “homophobic slur” in a statement posted on social media Thursday night.

According to the Visalia Times Delta news report, the school’s associated student body was leading an eight-grade orientation on Thursday when some ASB leaders reacted to two middle-school boys holding hands.

The staging of the homophobic slur photo at the school gym occurred around fourth period when a small group of eight ASB students – male and female, made shirts to spell out “2 FAG6OTS” while seating next to each other on the bleachers, according to news reports.

“That message carries real consequences for young’s people mental health, safety and sense of belonging,” said The Source LGBT+ Center. “Our youth deserve better. We can do better.”

The tern is derogatory against the LGBTQ+ community, and it is also considered to be hate speech.

According to news reports, the photo was shared schoolwide by students who took photos of the incident at the gym which was also being used for senior photos. It is unclear if eight-graders who were on campus for incoming freshmen orientation saw ASB students staging the photo.

Shrum said the students’ behavior “is unacceptable and does not reflect who we are or the values we uphold in our schools.”

According to the district, the Redwood administration will be investigating and taking appropriate action and providing necessary consequences in accordance with district policy and law. It is unclear what the consequences might be for those who took part.

“Every student deserves to feel respected, protected and valued on our campuses,” said Shrum. “We will continue working to ensure our schools are places where dignity, belonging and accountably guided our actions.”

Many community members responded to the district’s social media statement about the homophobic incident photo with concerns.

“This wasn’t “kids being kids.” It was a deliberate decision to create and display a poster board of privilege by students who represent leadership,” said Josette Romero Guzmán on Facebook.

Romero Guzmán, who has seen the photo, said “our children deserve better examples of responsibility, empathy, and leadership.”

According to the Visalia Unified School District, Board Policy states that appropriate consequences for those involved may include suspension or expulsion.

In a later update Friday evening, Visalia Unified announced they have taken “appropriate disciplinary action” against the students seen spelling the “hateful” homophobic slur.
