Remote Surveillance Trailer in Truckee, CA

Businesses like yours that exist in today's commercial landscape have to navigate a litany of complex security challenges that go beyond their property and premises. We're talking about criminals intent on trespassing, theft, squatting, vandalism, and more. Unfortunately, conventional security efforts are often underwhelming and ineffective in managing modern risks. That's because traditional systems are reactive, not proactive, by nature. That means they're designed to respond to criminal acts after they've happened. Typical responses from these systems include sounding alarms and notifying the authorities - but only after trespassers are on-site. This type of response leads to unnecessary false alarms and frustratingly slow police response times, giving criminals the opportunity to escape with sensitive assets, data, and more.

Mr. Security Camera was founded to address these shortcomings by offering business owners like you proactive, comprehensive security solutions you can count on. With innovative tools like a remote surveillance trailer in Truckee, CA, you can get ahead of security breaches, deter potential criminals from committing crimes, and solidify the overall safety of your property without having to rely on outdated security models. By focusing on prevention and lightning-fast response times, we help make peace of mind plentiful for today's most successful property owners and managers.

Truckee, California – A pattern change beginning Sunday will bring multiple days of mountain snow and travel impacts across Northern California.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, showers and Sierra snow will develop late Sunday and continue through midweek. The greatest impacts are expected from Tuesday into early Wednesday, when snowfall rates increase and travel conditions deteriorate at higher elevations.

Forecast guidance shows widespread snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches across Sierra passes, with localized totals of 12 to 18 inches possible along the crest. Snowfall will primarily affect elevations above 6,000 to 7,000 feet Monday, with snow levels lowering to around 5,000 to 6,000 feet Tuesday and Wednesday.

These conditions are likely to impact major mountain corridors, including Interstate 80 near Donner Summit, U.S. Highway 50 over Echo Summit, and State Route 88 through Carson Pass. Chain controls are likely during periods of heavier snow, and travel delays should be expected, particularly overnight and during the morning commute.

The Weather Service classifies the overall impact as moderate, citing slick roads, reduced visibility, and longer-than-normal travel times. Motorists are encouraged to monitor Caltrans QuickMap for the latest road conditions and chain requirements.

While valley locations will mainly see rain, cooler temperatures could contribute to slick conditions during heavier showers. No widespread flooding is expected at this time, but wet roads may slow travel in urban areas.

Officials advise travelers to plan ahead, carry chains when heading into the mountains, and allow extra time to reach destinations. Those commuting for work or school, especially early morning travelers and young workers heading into mountain communities, should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

Snow showers are expected to gradually taper late Wednesday into early Thursday, though lingering travel impacts may persist in higher terrain.

A members-only lodging house will open this month near the heart of Truckee with a unique spin on the traditional ski rental — and it immediately ranks as one of most expensive places to stay in town.

Guesthouse Lake Tahoe inhabits a newly built 4,000-square-foot home on the west end of central Truckee and offers an all-inclusive style of stay akin to a luxury hotel. It includes four California Gold Passes, which allow unlimited access to dozens of ski areas, and comes staffed with a private chef, a driver-tour-guide and an onsite employee called a “house captain” who functions as a concierge.

The staff “curates every stay, providing seamless coordination of transfers, customized itineraries, and special event facilitation, along with additional available services to enhance the guest experience like walkway shoveling, grocery shopping, dog walking, and childcare for traveling families,” according to a press release.

It’s an appeal to the Bay Area’s well-heeled travelers: A stay will cost $4,000 per night during peak months in summer and winter, and $5,000 per night during certain holiday weekends (with a five-night minimum booking). For repeat guests, after the first year of membership there’s a monthly $417 membership fee.

“There are no big, premium hotels in downtown Truckee, so there’s a lot of pent-up demand for something like this,” said Guesthouse founder Trevor Cornwell, an entrepreneur from Palo Alto. “It’s more expensive than an Airbnb but less expensive than having a group at the Ritz-Carlton.”

The home contains four private suites situated around common areas — a living room and fireplace, dining room and kitchen — and is designed for group bookings of up to 10 guests. The layout is designed to cultivate a communal atmosphere, Cornwell says, and the style of lodging sets Guesthouse apart from other standalone ski leases or luxury hotels.

Cornwell envisions the house catering to extended families or groups of friends or perhaps as a venue for company retreats.

“I love the idea of bringing people together and all the things that come from that,” Cornwell said. “The thing that can happen at Guesthouse that doesn’t happen anywhere else is, you can be the host or you can be hosted.”

The house isn’t yet available to book, but Cornwell expects it to be before the end of the month, pending a final certification from the town. The company has received commitments from interested guests for dates this winter and beyond, and Cornwell said there’s already a waiting list.

There are about a dozen boutique hotels in Truckee, plus a bevy of privately managed ski leases and 1,250 short-term rentals like Airbnbs. The closest approximation to Guesthouse’s membership model might be Gravity Haus Truckee-Tahoe, an activity-concierge hotel that opened five years ago with co-working spaces and “ski butlers” on staff — although nightly room rates there range from $300 to $400.

But Guesthouse is different from the town’s other lodging providers. The company owns two parcels adjacent to the main residence, one of which contains the historic Titus House, which has a commercial kitchen that will serve both Guesthouse visitors and sell pastries from a walk-up bakery slated to open later this year. Cornwell hopes to build out the campus, as he calls it, with a spa and other guest amenities.

“It’s quite a unique model for Truckee,” said Visit Truckee-Tahoe Executive Director Jackie Calvert. “We’ve always had vacation homes here, and some have concierge … but this is a notch further.”

“It’s certainly a very niche group of individuals who are going to book that experience,” Calvert added, “but we believe that broadening the opportunities for all types of guests is a good thing for Truckee.”

Cornwell says he hopes to eventually expand the Guesthouse brand with other properties around the country, starting with a second campus in Palm Springs that he says is in the works.

Residents and visitors in the Truckee area are being advised to stay alert after wolf activity was recently recorded nearby.

According to information shared by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, a wolf has appeared on the agency’s tracking map in the Truckee region. Officials say the data is being shared for situational awareness and does not necessarily mean the animal will be visible or remain in one location for an extended period of time.

CDFW is encouraging the public to take basic precautions, including closely supervising pets, especially during early morning and evening hours, and ensuring livestock are properly protected. People are also reminded not to approach, feed, or harass wildlife.

Anyone who observes a wolf, or captures photos or video, is asked to report the sighting directly to CDFW through its Wildlife Incident Reporting system so the activity can be documented and monitored. Reports can also be made through the CDFW Wildlife Hotline at (916) 358-2917.

The sighting near Truckee comes as wolf activity has increased across parts of Northern California in recent years, sometimes leading to conflicts with livestock operations. In Sierra Valley, four gray wolves were euthanized last year after being linked to an unprecedented number of cattle attacks, despite months of non-lethal deterrence efforts. In Lassen County, the sheriff’s office has also sought additional state assistance as ranchers near Susanville reported rising wolf depredations.

Wildlife officials say tracking and public reporting are key tools in managing wolf populations and balancing public safety with conservation efforts. Gray wolves are a protected species in California and have been gradually reestablishing their presence after being absent from the state for nearly a century.

CDFW officials emphasize that public cooperation helps them better understand wolf movement patterns and make informed decisions as the species continues to expand into new areas.

TRUCKEE, CA – Search efforts concluded last night on the evening of Jan. 5. All remaining individuals known to be in the area are accounted for and are safe. There are no other victims or outstanding persons.

This incident began when a group of five experienced snowmobilers set off for the day from the Johnson Canyon area (originally reported as Johnson Peak) and made their way successfully to Castle Peak. The group of five friends were all well-prepared for backcountry exploration, wearing appropriate protective equipment, including avalanche beacons/transceivers. Two individuals in the group are locals and know the area well (one is also CPR certified). The three others, including the victim, were visiting from Bend, OR (with another individual CPR certified).

On the group’s return from Castle Peak, an avalanche was triggered on the backside of the mountain, burying the victim, identified as Chris Scott Thomason, 42, of Bend, OR. The group immediately tracked Thomason’s beacon and began digging him out. After successfully retrieving him and beginning CPR, another group of three individuals, not affiliated with the group, came across the scene. One of these individuals happened to be an off-duty Truckee Fire medic who immediately began leading emergency efforts and CPR.

Despite the group taking several safety precautions and Thomason receiving high-level CPR, he did not survive the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the nearly 50 individuals who helped aid this rescue mission and to the four friends and three Good Samaritans who worked together against all odds.

The following is a good source of information for avalanche awareness and emergency preparedness: https://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/

Original story – Approximately 45 emergency responders and counting have responded to an avalanche in the vicinity of Johnson Peak and Castle Peak in Truckee, CA, that occurred Monday, Jan 5.

The original 911 call was received by the Nevada County Regional Dispatch Center at 2:19 p.m. as a transfer call from Washoe County’s 911 center, reporting a possible avalanche that unfolded among a group of snowmobilers with one unaccounted. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched in partnership with Truckee Fire and North Truckee Fire. A mutual aid request for emergency helicopter support was unavailable.

At the time of the call, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (NCSSAR) team was already on an active call for a Placer County Sheriff’s Office missing person’s case but transitioned to the avalanche based on possible level of severity. Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue also immediately responded. A total of three SnoCats were deployed, along with three snowmobile teams and several ski teams.

As events unfolded, it was learned that the one snowmobiler initially reported missing was found buried under the snow several minutes later. He was recovered by fellow recreationists, and despite lifesaving efforts, he did not survive. His identity is pending next of kin notification.

The scene remains active as emergency personnel work to safely extract the victim and confirm there are no other victims. Further avalanche activity remains possible; recreationists should avoid the area. An update will be provided when possible.

The Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones impacted by this tragic incident.
